SNP Pet and Vet Release Week of Aug 25

What's up Doc?

Silly rabbit, carrots are good for dogs too!  Carrots and other fresh veggies are great alternatives for canine treats.  Vegetables are flavorful, often crunchy and come from the fridge, so most dogs will be excited and delighted with the natural treats.  Dog biscuits and other commercial treats are high in calories and can quickly pack on extra pooch padding.  Given the approximate ratio of kilocalories to body size, a regular size milk bone is comparable to a Big Mac.  Consider how many times per week (or day) you toss a cookie your companion’s way . . . now imagine you ate Big Macs as often!

At Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital, located at 2447 North Star Rd. and Northstar Animal Care at 1600 W. 5th Ave. we strive to offer you the education you need to offer your pet a balanced, healthy, happy life.  Most vegetable snacks offer dogs with dietary allergies a safe hypoallergenic treat, keeping the whole pack healthy at the same time.  Added body weight can cause stress on the heart and joints and may predispose pets to diabetes.  Call us in Upper Arlington at 481.8014 or in Grandview at 488.4121 to ask a team member about your pet’s diet or to schedule an appointment.

PS. Grapes, onions, apple seeds, raisins and macadamia nuts are toxic to pets.  Never feed these items to your pet as a treat.  Chocolate and chewing gum can also be toxic if ingested!
